Man charged with murder over car attack at anti-far right protest in Virginia

A 20-year-old man has been charged with murder over the car attack at an anti-far right protest in Charlottesville that killed one woman and injured 19.

James Alex Fields Jr, of Maumee, Ohio, was charged with second-degree murder and is currently being held at Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail.

Several hundred protesters were marching in downtown Charlottesville on Saturday to take a stand against a white supremacist rally.

Disturbing video footage shows a Dodge Challenger, which is registered to Fields, accelerating into the crowd of protesters who are hurled into the air before the car reverses at speed.

A 32-year-old woman, whose identity has not been revealed, was killed in the attack.

Fields was caught and arrested a few streets away from the bloody carnage.
